Thomson Piano Works is owned and managed by David Thomson, RPT. David received a B.A. in American History from Drew University in 1985, and graduated from the North Bennet Street School for piano technology in 1987, receiving a piano technician’s certification. Upon returning to New Jersey, David studied and developed restoration techniques with several excellent technicians while building his own business. In 1988 he opened Thomson Piano Works. For over 20 years, his clients have included colleges and universities, theaters, arts organizations, and churches, as well as an extensive list of local professional and amateur musicians. In 1996, he opened The Piano Shop, a full service piano rebuilding facility in Dover, NJ. Here pianos are restored for clients or extensive repairs are performed on in-home pianos. David also maintains an inventory of restored instruments for sale.
David is a Registered Craftsman of the Piano Technicians Guild. He lives in Chatham, NJ with his wife and two children, and his grandmother’s 1925 Vose & Sons grand piano.
